The Community Services officers coordinated the Blue Santa Program
with the assistance of volunteers from the Vehicle Maintenance Department,
Police Department, E.M.S., and the Fire Department. The program gave
toys to children in the community that might otherwise not have anything
for Christmas. There were one hundred five (105) brand new bicycles
donated by the Wal-Mart in Friendswood, and the Blue Santa Program
gave over seventy (70) bikes to children who needed them. This year,
HEB Grocery store gift certificates were given to each family visited
to enable them to better feed their family over the holidays. Several
donations were received from local residents and businesses. The Blue
Santa Program delivered the presents on December 16th, 17th, and 18th.
Deliveries were made to 176 families and over 475 children within
the City of League City and outreach officers are still giving to
families throughout our community. This was our biggest year ever!
During the deliveries, Santa also visited the children on a fire truck,
with our volunteers from the Police Department and E.M.S. riding in
patrol cars and an ambulance. Charlie Ruhl with Clear Lake Body Shop
assisted with transportation for the toys, and League City Feed and
U-Haul donated the box truck for the presents. This year's program
was a complete success with the help of all of our volunteers and
the support of the community.
The
League City Police Department Blue Santa program would like to thank
everyone who assisted in giving to the children of our community.
We would also like to give a special thanks to Ferguson Elementary
School, Hall Elementary School, the Friendswood Wal-Mart, and to the
Hogan Family.
