PRESS RELEASE
League City Police Department
“Click It or Ticket” Enforcement Mobilization May 23 – June 5
Memorial Day 2005

Unbuckled Motorists Will Risk Getting a Ticket in League City during “Click It or Ticket” Campaign May 23 – June 5. Officers will be paying particularly close attention to unrestrained or improperly restrained children

From May 23 through June 5 the League City Police Department will be out in force, participating in the “Click It or Ticket” enforcement mobilization, according to Chief Andrew J. Daniel.

“There are still a lot of people who don’t think they need to buckle up. We want these drivers and passengers to know that buckling up is the smart move that gets them safely down the road. We’ll be writing tickets to the folks who just don’t get it yet. We’d rather write them a ticket than see someone injured or dead in a crash,” he said.

Chief Daniel stressed, “Seat belts save lives and we see it everyday. Our goal is voluntary compliance through education and enforcement”.

Many people believe that children who have outgrown child safety seats should use safety belts. This is not true. Safety belts, which are designed for adults, won’t fully restrain many children in a crash. Those children need a booster seat.

Both the driver and front seat passenger must buckle up. In League City a citation for failing to wear a seatbelt carries a fine of $140.00 and if a child is not properly restrained the citation fine is $205.00.

Unless you want to risk your life – remember to wear your seat belt – every trip, every time.
