Job Opportunities at League City Police Department

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

1. Education:

Must have a high school diploma OR G.E.D. certificate OR 12 or more hours at an accredited college. Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

2. Age:

Applicants 18 to 20 years of age will be considered eligible if they have: completed 60 hours at an accredited college, OR received an Associate Degree from such a school, OR received an Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Military after at least 2 years of active service.

21 - 35 Eligible to test with no age restrictions.

Applicants age 36 to 44 will be considered eligible if they have been employed as a peace officer for 5 years or received an Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Military after 5 years of service.

(TDCJ experience is NOT considered law enforcement experience unless the applicant was an armed peace officer for TDCJ.)


3. United States Citizenship:

Must be a citizen of the United States.


4. Written Exam:

Must pass all phases of the Nelson-Denny Reading Test with a minimum score of 70% in each of the two sections


5. Driver License:

Must possess a valid Texas driver license.


6. Traffic Convictions:

Must not have more than two moving traffic violation convictions within the 12-month period preceding the date of the written test. Overall driving record must be indicative of safe driving habits.


7. Criminal Convictions:
  • Not ever have been on court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense above the grade of Class B misdemeanor or a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years from the date of the court order
  • Not currently under indictment for any criminal offense
  • Not ever have been convicted of an offense above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor, or a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years
  • Never have been convicted of any family violence offense
  • Not prohibited by state or federal law from operating a motor vehicle
  • Not prohibited by state or federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition.

    8. Military Service:

  • Must have been discharged under Honorable Conditions by the time of appointment.
  • Must have an Honorable Discharge by the test date in order to be awarded veterans bonus points on the written exam.

  • 9. Physical Ability:

  • Must pass the physical assessment given by the League City Police Department.
  • Must have normal hearing without mechanical devices.
  • Must have good vision not over 20/200 uncorrected in either eye and vision may be correctable to 20/30 with corrective lenses.
  • Must have color vision without corrective lenses.
  • Must be able to pass a physician's physical and drug test.

    10. Psychological Health:

  • · Must be examined by a licensed psychologist, selected by the League City Police Department, and declared in writing to be in satisfactory psychological and emotional health to serve as a peace officer.

    11. Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education Licensure:
    (Applicable only to individuals formerly or currently licensed by the Commission)

  • Not have had a commission license denied by final order, revoked, currently on suspension for a criminal violation or have a voluntary surrender of license for each license currently in effect

  • Not violate any commission rule or provision of Occupations Code, Chapter 1701

  • A candidate shall be rejected for employment if the candidate would be ineligible for licensing under current TCLEOSE minimum eligibility standards.

    12. Background Questionnaire:

    Must complete a Background Questionnaire and pass a comprehensive background investigation.

     

    13. Credit History:

    Must have a stable credit history and not be delinquent in any just financial obligation.


    14. Polygraph:

    Must submit to and pass a polygraph exam

    15. Previous Background Investigations:

    Must not have been rejected for failing any portion of the League City Police background process within the 12-month period previous to the written exam.

     

    16. Previous Public Service:

    Must not have been dismissed from public service for good cause.

    17. Moral Character:

  • Must be of good moral character and be considered a person of good reputation and good standing in the community.
  • Must not be addicted to the habitual use of intoxicating beverages
  • Must not currently use illegal drugs
  • Must not have previously used illegal drugs or committed theft in violation of the League City police Department guidelines.
  • Must not make a false statement, whether written or oral, of a material fact, or cheat or practice any deception or fraud in connection with any portion of the testing, application, background investigations, hiring or appointment process.

 

    PHYSICAL ASSESSMENT

    You must pass the written test in order to qualify for the physical assessment and you must attend the physical assessment on the date specified. There are no make up dates. Applicants cannot participate in the physical assessment without the notarized physical assessment claims release form. The physical assessment consists of four parts and is conducted by the physical training officer of the Police Department. The areas covered will be:

    Flexibility
    A test of hamstring and lower back flexibility with the applicant seated on the floor, legs extended (shoes must be removed) feet approximately 8 inches apart, reaching forward. A ruler is placed at the heel at the 15-inch mark. Starting at 15 inches, an applicant must reach past his/her toes to the number of inches specified as the minimum fitness standard for their group.

    Muscular Endurance
    A one-minute test of muscular endurance of a major muscle group, fingers laced and held behind head, must rest in up position.
    Situps
     
    Muscular Endurance
    A test of muscular endurance of a major muscle group, hands slightly wider than shoulders, back must remain straight, knees off the ground. The body is lowered until it touches a fist or 3-inch sponge. Standard pushup. No modified pushups will be allowed. There is no time limit.

    An applicant may try as many times as necessary to pass the assessment; however, the final decision to end testing for the day rests with the Physical Training Officer.

    During the background investigation, further information may be gathered regarding your physical/medical ability to perform the duties of a police officer.

    ONLY APPLICANTS WHO SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE THE PHYSICAL ASSESSMENT WILL BE GIVEN THE BACKGROUND QUESTIONNAIRE TO COMPLETE.
