The League City Police Department D.A.R.E. and Community Outreach Programs have established a scholarship that will send one League City fifth grade student to Washington D.C. with Discovery Tours, Inc. each year. The Washington D.C. trip is a unique educational field trip for students as they travel with peers and faculty sponsors to learn our nation’s history.

The League City Police Department scholarship pays $945.00 for the trip and allots $80.00 spending money for the winner. The scholarship is awarded based on the child’s academic transcript, conduct grades, and attendance. The child is required to write an essay detailing his/her desire to go on the trip and why he/she should be chosen. Each school will have the opportunity for its students to apply for the scholarship.

This year Ross Elementary School students participated in the scholarship. Fifth grader and D.A.R.E. student Ryan Stevens was chosen. Ryan wrote an outstanding essay and met all requirements for the award. The League City Police Department commends Ryan for her achievement. Congratulations, Ryan Stevens!

Next year, the League City Police Department will send a student from Hyde Elementary School.
