| Press Release – Possible Police Impersonator LEAGUE CITY — On Monday, December 10, 2007, the League City Police Department received a report from a citizen concerning a subject possibly impersonating a police officer. The citizen advised that while driving on FM 646 between Hwy 146 and Hwy 3 at approximately 8:30 PM on 12-05-2007, she noticed flashing red and blue lights behind her vehicle. Believing it to be a police officer stopping her, she pulled over. As she stopped, she observed the vehicle behind her to be a black Dodge pickup. The driver of the truck, a white male, 40-50 years of age and approximately 5’06”, approached her window and asked for her driver license. She stated that the subject was wearing camouflage pants and a black shirt with the word “POLICE” on it. Still believing him to be a police officer she handed him her driver license. He went on to ask her where she was going and where she lived. When asked why she had been stopped the suspect stated that he just wanted to see what kind of car she was driving. He then handed her driver license back and drove away. The League City Police Department is actively investigating this case and following up on similar reports in the area. There has been a potential suspect identified and detectives are in the process of investigating the possibility that he is a licensed peace officer and if there was any legitimate purpose for his stop. We will provide further information as the investigation continues. For further questions, please contact Sgt. Dan Krieger at 281-338-4171 or Sgt. Jordan at 281-338-8207. UPDATE 1-9-08- Through the investigation, the person stopping people was identified and interviewed. He was determined to be a peace officer from Walker County. The case was referred to the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office and TCLEOSE. Along with our agency, they are reviewing the case.
